This review looks at cancer prevention studies in selected cancers associated with obesity:

  • Prostate cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Endometrial cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Esophageal adenocarcinoma
  • Colon cancer

And on foods that have anti-obesity and anti-cancer effects:

Soy

Soy: a complete source of protein.

Soybeans contain all of the essential amino acids necessary for human nutrition…
Populations with diets high in soy protein and low in animal protein have lower risks of prostate and breast cancers than other populations.

Botanical Dietary Supplements for Menopause

Menopause: a review of botanical dietary supplements.

We conclude that black cohosh extracts appear to ease menopausal symptoms; ongoing studies funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will provide more definitive safety and efficacy data. Soy isoflavone extracts appear to have minimal to no effect, although definitive conclusions are difficult given the wide variation in product composition and dose. Long-term safety of higher dosage (150 mg/day) soy isoflavone extracts is uncertain.

Cancer Prevention with Soy and Ginseng

Protective effects of Asian dietary items on cancers – soy and ginseng.

The isoflavones genistein and daidzein are phytoestrogens found in soy. Phytoestrogens bind to estrogen receptors which may reduce breast, ovarian, endometrial, and prostate cancer.
Ginseng contains polyphenol compounds and saponins which may reduce gastric cancer.
